Why Are Invicta Watches So Cheap?

If you’re looking for a new watch then you’re bound to run into Invicta at one point or another. Invicta has been around for more then 150+ years and these days their watches are all over the internet. However, many people wonder why their watches are so cheap and if this means their quality is bad? Let’s find out!

Why are invicta watches so cheap? Invicta watches are cheap because the company outsources a large part of their manufacturing process to China. Furthermore they don’t make their own movements and they sell a large volume which makes it cheaper to produce their watches.

Now that you know this it’s time to read a bit more about this. Below we’ll first outline the reasons why Invicta watches are so cheap. After this we’ll see if Invicta watches are worth the money. Finally you’ll see which are the best affordable Invicta watches you can buy.

Two Reasons Why Invicta Watches Are Cheap

There are many reasons why Invicta watches are so cheap. However, there are only two reasons which influene the price the most. Below you’ll see which these are.

Invicta Doesn’t Make Their Own Movements

If you’re a watch manufacturer then one of the most expensive parts of the process is producing high-quality movements. Especially when you want an automatic movement in your watch then you can expect this to add up quickly.

For this reason Invicta has decided to not make their own movements in-house. Instead they outsource this part of the production process to well established companies that will provide them with the movements. These companies are ETA, ISA, Ronda, Seagull, Miyota and Seiko.

All of these companies are known for their good build quality though of course these movements aren’t anything special. While we’re on the subject of movements it’s also worth noting that many Invicta watches make use of a Japanese quartz movement. These movements are of good quality but they are also very cheap to manufacture which helps Invicta maintain a very low price.

Use Of Materials

Besides the low-cost movements it’s also worth noting that Invicta uses good quality but very common materials to produce their watches. Most of their watches will be made from stainless steel. This will be true for the bracelet as well as the case of the watch. If you’re looking for a gold-toned watch then it’s good to know that Invicta sometimes uses ion-plating which is more durable then gold paint. That’s actually a good touch.

When we look at the materials of the watch you’ll also notice that the glass that covers the dial is made from sapphire-coated mineral glass. I have to say that this is actually a good choice given that this makes the glass very scratch and shatter-resistant. Though this material is good it’s not very luxurious or expensive and therefore cost remain low.

Finally you’ll want to know that the production of most parts is outsourced to other manufacturers around the world (mainly China). Therefore Invicta is able to sell their watches very cheaply, simply because manufacturing and assembly cost remain low.

The watches that are a bit more expensive ($200+) are normally Swiss-made which means 60% of their manufacturing costs have been spent in Switzerland. This makes the production of the watches more expensive and therefore the price also increases a bit (though still not very much).

If you want to know how good Invicta watches actually are then I highly suggest you check out this blog that I wrote earlier: Are Invicta watches good?

Why Are Invicta Watches Considered Cheap?

When you go to retail websites such as Amazon then you’ll find that they sell a lot of Invicta watches. What’s even more interesting is the fact that many of these watches have 1.000+ reviews with 4 or 5 stars. That’s of course very good.

However, when you go and look at watch forums you’ll find that many people actually aren’t a fan of Invicta. They will consider the watches to ”junk” or ”poorly made”. So why is it that Invicta watches are considered cheap while many people seem to be so happy with them?

Well, first of all there’s the fact that Invicta outsources almost everything they do. Because of this the quality control isn’t the best out there and some people will find that there $50 watch will fail after some time. Mostly though, the problem isn’t that parts or movements but the assembly which isn’t top notch. However, many people that buy a $50-$200 watch will know what they will get and are quite happy with what the watch offers for its price.

Furthermore people that participate on online forums are normally very into the world of watches. They will own watches such as Omega, Grand Seiko or another mid-range to luxury brand. If this is the standard that you’re measuring an Invicta watch against then the watch does indeed look and feel cheap.

In the end the only thing that matters is your perspective. If you buy a $200 watch you can expect something decent that will look good for a few years. You don’t expect a top-notch timepiece that will last you 25+ years. As long as you’re aware of this then Invicta watches will do just fine.

Are Invicta Watches Worth The Money?

That also brings us to our next question which is if Invicta watches are worth the little money that you’ll spend on them. Again, this all depends on who you are and what you’re looking for.

Invicta watches are great watches if you’re looking for something that you can wear daily without being scared of damaging them beyond repair. After all, if this happens you’ll only lose about $200. They’re also great watches if you’re looking for something that will catch your eyes since Invicta generally sells very flashy watches.

If you’re looking for something with great build quality or something that will last you a very long time then Invicta isn’t worth the money. In this case there are arguably better options such as Seiko, Citizen, Tissot, Hamilton etc. Most of these will be a bit more then $50 but they will also last a longer time.

What Are The Best Affordable Invicta Watches?

Finally it’s time to have a look at the best affordable yet good quality Invicta’s that you can get your hands on. Invicta sells a lot of watches but the ones I’ve outlined below are the best, though that’s of course still my own personal opinion.

Invicta 1774 Pro Diver

If you’re looking for an Invicta watch then you’ll likely run into a lot of gold-toned watches. Because of this I thought we start of with the best gold-toned Invicta watch that you can get which is the 1774 Pro Diver.

The Pro Diver series is arguably one of the best affordable series that Invicta sells and there are a few reasons for this. For this particular watch that’s because this watch isn’t actually gold-toned, it’s gold ion-plated. This means there’s actually a really thin layer of gold on the watch which means it will last a lot longer than regular gold-toned watches (which will generally only last a year).

Looking at the specifics of the watch you’ll find out that it has a 43.5mm stainless steel case. The same materials is used for the bracelet. The dial is protected by sapphire-coated mineral glass which is actually a surprisingly strong material for a watch that costs around $65.

Furthermore it’s good to know that this watch has a Japanese quartz movement that controls three sub-dials. The dials have various functions. There’s one for 60-seconds, 60-minutes and 1/10 second.

Invicta 1773 Pro Diver

It may seem a little strange to immediately follow one Pro Diver up with the other but there’s just no getting around the fact that these are the best Invicta watches. Therefore I decided to include this one as well.

As you would expect all the specifics are almost the same as the 1774. The main selling point of this watch is actually it’s design. This is actually one of the most popular watches that Invicta sells and with good reason. Many people really like the look of the dark blue dial and bezel combined with the two-toned stainless steel case and bracelet.

If you’re also expecting the same price as the 1774 Pro Diver then I will have to tell you that’s not exactly true. This one will cost you around $80.

Invicta 14330 Speciality

Finally I thought we would end the list with the most expensive Invicta (it’s a whopping $85). Whereas the Pro Diver series has some pretty good watches the Speciality certainly serves a different purpose. As you can see the reason why this watch is on the list is because of it’s design.

The watch has a 18K gold-plated case that is attached to a genuine leather strap. Also, the dial of the watch makes use of the sapphire-coated mineral glass that we’ve already seen on the Pro Diver watches. Again, this is a good material that is very scratch and shatter-resistant.

What makes this watch unique is it’s vintage look and the unique shape it has. Furthermore the dial of the watch has some very vintage looking numbers on it. This watch won’t be for everyone but if you’re looking for something that’s a bit more distinct then this may be a good fit.
